On the blistering summer days, the rows of blue ocean fluctuated up and down, which demonstrated the elegant demeanor of the freshmen from Grade 10 of Anqing Foreign Language School.
‘Stand at attention. Stand at ease.’ Following the officer’s command, Anqing Foreign Language School’s students did the corresponding movements and I was also a small drop of water in the blue sea, sweating on the campus, high-spirited and vigorous.
The wind is what everyone wants during the blistering summer days. Our dry lips, wet backs and the instructor’s stern eyes were reflected in my fuzzy eyes. We were sweating and stood a pose of soldier for a long time. The sweat rolled down our cheeks. Perhaps God pitied us, bringing us a cloud that covered the sun. Then there was a little rain. Everyone was delightful and said, ‘It rained at last.’
Furthermore, there was a four-way rotation in the military training, which was to the left, right and the back. We needed to shout ‘1,2’. Besides, there were certain requirements. For instance, the left foot moved first if we turned left with the right foot keeping pace. We practised the whole day from morning to the afternoon. We felt numb in the legs because of the pressure in the practice. In addition, we lost direction and were dizzy in the head. Nonetheless, the drillmaster was strict with us. If you made a mistake, you were supposed to make a report. I didn’t realize how long it took before the end of the first day of the military training life. My legs were as heavy as the lead. My neck hurt as if there were chains tied on it. I felt my waist was clamped by an iron lock. My whole body ached. Finally I experienced the pain of the military training and realized how hard my parents worked outside. I hope I can seize the three years and create my own brilliance so that I won’t let my parents down. Meanwhile, I learned that the officers trained industriously at ordinary times. I wanted to possess the same quality as they did that I did not have: perseverance, diligence, meticulosity, carefulness and industriousness.
Overall, the first day of the amazing yet painstaking military training has passed. I hope to make persistent efforts tomorrow and make every move perfectly to satisfy the teachers and instructors.
